Patch & route an input
Before a channel can do anything, it has to know which physical input to listen to. This is the plumbing — get it right once and it stays right. The full explanation → Guide, Step 1
The short version
- ROUTING screen button

- Set each block of 8 inputs → the channels that should receive them
- Odd one out? Set that channel's source on its Config tab

Before you start
- This is usually already done. Routing is a set-once thing. If the desk has been working fine, don't go changing it — skip to naming or gain. You need this page when something's newly patched, when a channel has gone dead, or when you're building a setup from scratch.
- Know where the signal physically arrives. Two possibilities: a local XLR on the back of the console, or an input on a stagebox connected over AES50. Different sources, routed separately.
Step by step

Open the routing screen.
Press the ROUTING screen-select button above the display, then make sure you're on the Home tab. This page maps physical inputs to console channels.

Understand the blocks.
The X32 routes inputs in blocks of eight, not one at a time. So you're telling it things like "Local inputs 1–8 feed channels 1–8" and "AES50-A inputs 1–8 feed channels 9–16." Turn the encoders beneath the display to change each block's source.
This block approach is fast but blunt — it's why a one-off change happens on the channel instead (step 4).

Set your blocks.
Work left to right through the channel blocks, assigning each one its source. A typical setup with a stagebox on stage and a few things plugged in at the booth might be:

Need one channel to break the pattern?
Say input 12 died and you've moved that mic to a spare input. You don't want to re-map an entire block for one channel.
Instead: SELECT that channel, press HOME, go to the Config tab, and set its input source directly. That overrides the block routing for just that one channel.

Confirm signal is arriving.
Solo the channel and watch the meter while something makes noise into that input. Movement on the meter means the patch is good. Nothing? No sound / no signal →

Save the scene.
Routing lives in the scene. Change it and don't save, and it's gone next power-up. Scenes & backup →

If it goes wrong
- A channel is dead but the cable and mic are fine.
- Check its source on the Config tab. Someone may have overridden it for a previous service and left it that way.
- Everything shifted by eight channels.
- A block got reassigned. Look at the Routing → Home page and compare against Our Setup.
- The stagebox inputs are all dead at once.
- That's not routing, that's the AES50 link. Check the cable between the stagebox and the console. No sound / no signal →
- You changed routing and now the monitor mixes are wrong.
- Expected — the sends were built on the old channel assignments. Fix the routing first, then check the sends. Sends →
