One channel at a time

These follow the channel signal flow, top to bottom. New here? Start at Patch & route and work down. Looking one thing up? Jump straight to it.

The eleven tasks

Patch & route an input Map physical inputs to channels on the Routing screen; override one channel on its Config tab. Name & color a channel Short name, color, and icon on the Config tab — so you never grab the wrong fader. Phantom power & polarity +48V for condensers and active DIs (mute first!); flip Ø when two mics share a source. Set the gain The important one. Solo, unity fader, play loud, aim for −18 average / −6 peaks. Low-cut Throw away the rumble a source never needed — but leave kick and bass alone. Set up a gate An automatic mute for mic'd toms and snare on a loud stage. Gentle on monitors. EQ + the RTA Four parametric bands. Cut before you boost; use the RTA to find, your ears to fix. Set a compressor Even out loud and quiet. Aim for 3–6 dB of gain reduction on the loudest parts. Set up sends (monitors & FX) Pre-fader for monitors, post-fader for effects. The one concept that matters. DCA & mute groups Ride a whole group on one fader; kill the stage between sets with one button. Scenes & USB backup Save a snapshot of the whole desk, and back the show file up to a USB stick.
